What to Expect
It is common to feel nervous before your first therapy appointment. I know that for many people therapy is unfamiliar. At your first appointment, I will want to gather a full history and a solid understanding of the reasons you are seeking treatment. From this information, I can create a treatment plan that fits your needs. Some people begin to feel better as soon as they make their appointment or at the first session.
There can be a sense of relief when you make the commitment to address an issue that is problematic. However, many people do not feel better immediately. Emotional exploration and change can be difficult. The therapeutic relationship can provide support and safety that ultimately facilitates positive gains in self-esteem, improved relationships and coping skills.
How Long is a Session
Ongoing individual therapy sessions are typically between 45-50 minutes. Couples sessions are ideally 75-90 minutes. The duration of treatment is largely influenced by treatment goals and recommendations. In most cases, sessions are weekly, particularly at the beginning of therapy. Being mindful of your resources, I will work with you to find a schedule that meets your needs, and I will work as efficiently as possible to achieve your goals.
Insurance
I am a fee-for-service provider, but as a licensed counseling psychologist, my professional services qualify for patient reimbursement, and may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance. I will be considered an “out-of-network provider.” I collect fees directly from you, however many plans allow you to apply for reimbursement using the billing statements I will provide for you. I encourage you to contact your insurance company prior to your first appointment with me to determine your outpatient mental health benefits.
Reduced Fees
Reduced fee services are available to qualified candidates on a limited basis.
Payment
Fees are due at the time of service. Cash, Check, Master Card and Visa accepted for payment.
Cancellation Policy
If you do not show up for your scheduled appointment, and you have not notified me at least 24 hours in advance, you will be required to pay the full cost of the treatment as booked since that time was reserved for you and was not available to other clients.
