Positive features of group therapy can include:
- Feeling accepted
- Gaining a sense of belonging
- Knowing you are not alone; others have had similar experiences
- Giving and receiving support
- Practicing new behaviors/ways of communicating in a safe place (sometimes referred to as ‘social laboratory’)
Groups can be open-ended in nature, have set number of sessions, be process-oriented and conversational, or be educational.
